Let your readers know what is in store for them in your first paragraphs. There are two kinds of articles; those which cover things in general and can be published at most any time, and current events. The easiest and the best place to start with these type of articles is your local newspaper with a goal of syndication to many more of other media.

In order for your articles to be accepted by the editor there must be a local twist of personal interest to the readers. The unusual and odd things about people and their vocation and gives the reader a departurefrom the daily drudgery are the best and most saleable articlesto write about. This includes adventure, mystery, murder, money,accidents, discoveries, economy, history, illness, jail,jealousy, obsessions, quacks, struggles, taxes, etc.

Remember, you must get your readers attention from your very first words when writing feature stories for any newspaper type publication, where as a novel or short story for a magazine builds to a climax andgenerally clears up all the loose ends at completion.

For a magazine article to sell to the publisher action in thefirst and last part is a must, while the rest is devoted tonarrative and or explanations with a number of vital incidents tokeep it alive. Keep your writing flows in such a manner your readers will anxiously read ahead to find out what happens next.

When you submit your copy, put your name, address and phonenumber at the upper left cover of the first page and total numberof words contained in your article on the upper right corner. Ifyou are submitting an article to the newspaper a title will notbe necessary as the editor will normally determine after reviewingyour article.

Leave a lot of room at the top of each pages, use double spacingand wide margins so there is a lot of space for editing. Numberthe pages at the top. preferable on the right hand side. Typeonly on the front side of each page. Enclose a Stamped, selfaddressed return envelope. Lay it out so your name always appearswith the article so that you will gain recognition as a writer.

There are millions of things to write about so you should never bewithout ideas for your articles. To get the ideas all you need todo is go through the dictionary and write about anything andeverything that comes in mind, based on the more practical words.
