Writing Ezine Articles Is Better Than Blogging

Writing Ezine Articles Is Better Than Blogging
By Tino Buntic

Blogging is a social phenomenon; it is huge and, no doubt, it is exacerbated by a lot of media coverage. However, I just recently came to the following conclusion: Writing ezine articles is better than blogging. By etter I mean it is more successful in generating visitors to your website; it just does not have the media coverage that blogging does so you may not have tried it yet. I will assume that most people blog as a means to draw people to their business website and they do it because they are told that it works. But what if you could do something that takes the same amount of time but is more successful? In this instance, I measure success by the number of page views.

Writing ezine articles is more successful than blogging. But, don't take my word for it. I want you to try the following experiment to see for yourself:

Write one good ezine article and submit it to an ezine directory. The most popular and best ranked ezine article directory is EzineArticles.com. It's best to submit to that one. Now, take that same article and post it on your blog. Come back to it in one week and measure the difference in page views. I would bet that your ezine article will have considerably more page views. That same article will have hundreds, if not thousands, of page views one year from now. Your blog won't. A blog post gets stale after a few days. Thats the nature of blogs an old post is a stale post. A blog posting usually doesn't draw visitors after a few days.

Of course, some well ranked blogs get plenty of visitors but most don't. Unless your name is something like Matt Cutts, Jason Calacanis, Robert Scoble (Scobleizer), Michelle Malkin, or even Mark Cuban you are probably a schmuck like me and cannot get many visitors to your blog.

The reason you will get more page views on an ezine article is threefold:

  • An ezine directory like EzineArticles.com is already well ranked and draws thousands of daily visitors. Your ezine automatically gets page views from that.
  • Ezines on EzineArticles.com get indexed by search engines like Google and rank very well in search results. Your Ezine will normally get indexed by Google within a week of publishing it. And, it could be included in search results for years to come. One ezine article can draw visitors for years to come
  • Good ezine articles can and do get republished on other websites. This could mean that just one ezine article could get you page views and links from dozens of websites.
  • Writing ezine articles does work and it has worked for me. I have written 56 articles over the past 13 months, resulting in over 16,000 page views. Some of those articles are recent articles so I still have not seen the full impact of them. My articles have also been republished over 200 times resulting in even more page views on other websites. The articles that Ive written result in an average of 6.25 page views each per day. Perhaps that doesnt sound like much? Think about this 56 articles times 365 days in a year times 6.25 page views a day each; that is 127,750 page views that I expect to receive over the course of the next year. And, that is if I do nothing else. But, I will write more articles and I will get even more page views. And, those page views will result in people clicking on the link to my website at the bottom of each article. I can never hope to remotely achieve that type of success with a blog.

The Quest For Auto Morphing or Twisting A Single Article Into Hundreds of Different Articles

The Quest For Auto Morphing or Twisting A Single Article Into Hundreds of Different Articles
    By Peter Lim

Adsense Publishers and those who are into making of content websites for the display of advertisements all recognize the importance of unique content and specially written articles containing high paying keywords which are then put up as webpages.

That is why it is not a surprise to see a plethora of new software purporting to help morph or twist articles, or private label right articles that you can purchase from any source and then subject it to the manipulative actions of the software to generate hundreds of different articles.

But then how good are their morphing or wisting abilities?

What are some good criteria to keep in mind if you are seeking to use some software to do some morphing or twisting of your articles?

The first thing to know is that any software you use must be seen as a tool to help you write your articles or to re-write your articles in different ways. These tools must never be treated as software that will take over the task of intelligent re-writing on automatic. These tools are considered as time-savers, and helpers to assist to give you synonyms, paraphasing, similar words and so on to help you form new ways of re-expressing yourself and therefore re-writing an article.

Any other way to look at it will result in you having a disappointed view because the result of so called auto-rewriting will fail to impress in most cases.

There are some software that allow you to manipulate whole sections of whatever article that you have written before. This is by way of a series of guided steps involving highlighting different parts of the article and adding in synonyms, then highlighting whole blocks of phrases to change the phrases and so on. As a result, the end article is a more intelligble article. However, there is the writer's involvement. Manual work is required to use the software with its tools to re-write the article.

Some software are in their basic form - allowing you to add on prewritten snippets at the introduction of the article, at the center of the article and at the end of the article before your resource box.

The use of such softwares at the basic level seldom impresses, because the addition of these snippets are merely to add padding to the article, which are not genuine meaningful content. They add on to the wordiness of the article, increasing their word count and do nothing much more.

There is no short cut to writing your own well crafted articles, and to learn the art of article writing. Use all these new tools as what they are best suited for- as tools to help you re-write parts of your articles, and not as auto generating tools for the entire article. Consider them as time savers and not the ultimate software to generate content for you mindlessly.

Top Ten Checklist to Edit Your Articles

Top Ten Checklist to Edit Your Articles
    By Judy Cullins

Submitting articles once or twice a week can yield 15 or more subscribers to your own ezine each time. Read by thousands, even hundreds of thousands, your articles also bring people to your Web site to buy your products or services.

Knowing these benefits, you want to create and submit as many articles as you can. At times, you have the articles complete, but don't have anyone handy to edit them. While it's best to get at least two other edits from business associates, you can edit your articles yourself with a little help.

Use this checklist of the ways to edit your own work:

1.Start your introduction with a question or startling fact. You must hook your readers with something that reaches their emotions. Make it you centered.

2.Make your introduction only a few sentences. Your readers want to get to the heart of your book chapter or article fast. They want easy-to-read quick tips. Long stories can bring a yawn to your reader.

3.Make all of your sentences short. Since standard sentence length is 15-17 words, make most of your sentences under that number. Complex sentences and multiple phrases make the reading tougher. Make it easy for your readers to get the point fast.

4.Avoid dull, slow passive sentences. Start them with a subject, then follow with a verb to avoid passive construction. The coach marketed her business and books through submitting articles online is an active sentence. The coach's books were marketed online through submitting articles is passive. Drop linking verbs such as is, was, seemed, or had. Replace them with power, active verbs. Instead of she is beautiful, you could say, Her beauty compels you to stare at her.

    5. Aim for compelling, clear copy. Write for the 8-10th grade reader. Always think What's in it for them?

6.Use specific nouns and names. General references don't engage your readers' emotions. Let them see the size, color, and shape. Rather than say, Write your book fast to make lifelong income, say Write and finish your book fast so you can take that long vacation to a Caribbean island such as Tobago. Money isn't a specific pull, but a vacation is.

7.Let go of adverbs. Words like very, suddenly, and sparingly, tell instead of show. Use adverbs only at Christmas.

8.Let go of unneeded adjectives. Instead of a super-intelligent person, you can say a genius.

9.Appeal to the senses of sight, sound, and emotions. Telling is not an effective. Instead of Buy this book today because it is so useful, say, Would you like to double, even quadruple your Online income in four months?

10.Cut redundancies. Don't talk down to your reader with too much repetition. Be willing to part with your precious words. The first edit usually reduces the words by to 1/3. Don't use pompous words.

If you are a professional who wants your writing to reflect that, be sure to follow these editing tips. You can then be confident that what you put out to your market will be well received and your business will flourish.

Can You Become a Writer by Writing Online Articles?

Can You Become a Writer by Writing Online Articles?
    By Lance Winslow

Some folks believe that you cannot become a professional writer if you start out writing online articles. I completely disagree, especially after teaching myself to write in this manner. I'll have you know that you can become a writer and author by using the online article submission site venue. In fact, I am even writing an eBook on that exact subject.

Additionally, in further contemplation I believe that many of us have experiences, observations and things we want to say and one way to do this is through writing. Online article writing is perfect for that, to help get the word out. You see some people are of a creative nature and well these online writers cannot turn off their minds and it makes sense to become a writer. Unfortunately, writing is a skill that must be learned.

Many of us have a predisposition for writing and perhaps had some success as teens, but did not pursue that venue as we grew up and chose other majors in college or careers out in the world. If you are at the point where you would like to become a writer then you maybe pleasantly surprised that it is possible to teach yourself how to write. I recommend trying online article writing as a way to do just that.

There are an abundance of books, online courses and helpful writing consultants to help get you started. All you need to do is to set becoming a writer as your goal and then get busy writing and practicing until you become proficient. What should you start writing about you ask?

Well anything that comes to mind is the answer some professional writers give to novices. It is important to get use to writing a lot so that you can produce the word counts needed to complete your writing projects, essays, short stories, articles or novels on a timely basis. The more you write the better you will get provided you stick to the basics and do not teach yourself bad habits.

Try writing some online articles today! I certainly hope this article is of interest and that is has propelled thought. The goal is simple; to help you in your quest to be the best in 2007. I thank you for reading my many articles on diverse subjects, which interest you.

    Writing Good Articles

    Writing Good Articles
    By Jennie Crawford

There is a lot of information on article writing available on the internet today. If you are an internet marketer, you have likely heard of article marketing as a no-cost way to advertise. If you have a low budget, but lots of time, article marketing may be for you.

There are some things you can do to make the article writing process go more quickly. You can write about something you know. You will need to do a lot less research if you are writing about a subject that you already know a great deal about. You will find that writing an article on a subject that you are interested in and know a lot about will go very quickly.

You can jot down some points that you want to cover in your article down an a piece of paper. This will help you to organize your article and make sure that all relevant points are covered. You may also be pleasantly surprised by all the information that you really do have on a subject. You may actually have enough information to write several articles with very little if any research at all. You will need to find a product to promote relating to your articles of course, or perhaps you have your own website devoted to a particular topic and you can use your articles to drive targeted people to your website.

The great thing about article marketing is that you will receive very targeted traffic. Only people who are interested in your subject will want to read your article. Therefore, if they follow your link for more information, you can be reasonably sure that they are serious about getting more information and are therefore more likely to purchase your product or visit your website.

It is important to write quality articles if you want them to be reproduced and show up all over the web. This can potentially generate traffic for you for years to come. If you write quality articles on interesting subjects that you know about and that people have interest in, you will be successful in article marketing. It wont make you a millionaire overnight, but it can generate a pretty good income. There arent many programs out there that can make you a millionaire overnight anyway. Article marketing is a no cost way to get your information out to people who are actually interested in it. You wont blow through your advertising budget with untargeted visitors. Its a great marketing tool that many people use in their affiliate marketing endeavors. I believe that with practice, you can write good informational articles faster then you ever though possible.

Writing Good Articles Article Writing For Results

Writing Good Articles - Article Writing For Results
    By James Krawder

God has given all the people a different set of capabilities. Some of the people are naturally good at writing while others are not. It is a natural talent which can be polished to give the best. If a person has a natural flare for writing, he or she can write very good articles if he or she follows certain small but important steps while writing an article. These steps can be used as a guide by especially those writers who are new to the field. Articles are being written by the people about any and everything in this world. There is a whole world of article writing from which many people are winning their bread and butter. If you want to be good in this competitive world, you need to follow certain rules.

If you want to write good articles you must do your home work with care. Research about the topic you are going to write about. Until and unless you understand it, you cannot write anything useful for the reader. Once you are done with the research part, you must go for jolting down the pointers. These pointers can be considered as the basic structure of your article. Once you have done that, you can always start writing about the subject. Keep the length of the article in your mind. It needs to be informative even if it is a very small article. The increase in length may increase the details, but you can only be considered good at writing articles if you can explain your point of view in lesser words as well.

One of the most important factors in the article writing is that you must not copy the stuff from any where. Be original. Think and create, and then write. It is the best way.

5 Dynamite Ways to Generate Ideas for Parenting Articles

5 Dynamite Ways to Generate Ideas for Parenting Articles
    By Terri Pilcher

The key to selling reprints to parenting publications is the creation of dynamite ideas followed through with professional writing. Here, Im focusing only on finding those lucrative topics.

Most topics in regional parenting publications are straightforward: finance, parenting tips, health, sports, and education. The trick is to twist them in an unusual way.

    1. If youre a parent, what do you wish you knew about a topic? Write down questions that you have as you go through the day. When I was driving the other day, I complained to myself about bad teenage drivers. Then I wondered, What can parents do to encourage good driving? If you already know the answer to the question, it wont make a good article unless youre an expert on the subject.

    2. Take a generic topic and make it seasonal. Choose a season about four months away, because the lead-time for parenting publications is 2 to 6 months. Four months from now is April. What happens in April (or would be published in April) that I can combine with a topic like health? In April, parenting publications start printing their summer guides to camps. What can parents do to make sure their children stay healthy at camp? What are the traits of a safe camp? Change to camping plus another topic like education or finance to create unique articles.

    3. Who do you know who has an unusual or remarkable story something that affected children? What did the parents learn? Write an article using the anecdote as an introduction to the information you want to give. A great anecdote can sell a story.

    4. Visit online parenting forums and read the questions people ask. Use some of these as a basis for your article ideas.

    5. When you research a piece and talk to experts, look for what you dont know. Joe says insurance is important for families, wont make an article interesting. Too many people know that insurance is important. But a quote like, Joe says disability insurance is the most neglected area of insurance, but it protects young families from the biggest threat to their security, will make parents keep reading.

If you give editors timely articles that readers will want to read, youll sell your work over and over again.

Are Experts More Likely to Write Free Articles and For Pay Works?

Are Experts More Likely to Write Free Articles and For Pay Works?
    By L. Winslow

It has been observed that expert writers or experts in a field often give away their words in some cases and sell them in others. Generally, they have an area of expertise where they can command a higher price and perhaps have passion in other areas and decide to put pen to paper and write for free. Well this was a recent discussion at an online article forum dialogue recently.

Writers giving in some areas and selling in others makes a lot of sense to me. I like that and of course this brings up another subject on the topic of experts. How can we tell if they are an expert with regards to what they write? If we were to design a system that could tell us should we alter the scale to take into consideration the various types of writing?

A.) Should we be searching both Free-Articles and For Sale Articles or Paid Works to find the experts, perhaps giving more credence to the paid works?

B.) Should we understand that non-paid works of passion or non-profit philanthropy, be rated along with the elevated For Sale Works.

C.) If so, then how much more credence or credit advantage should they be given? Paid works 40% higher probability of being an expert than free-works?

D.) Non-Fiction works might only count as expert writer unless the work goes into extensive details such as in Historical Fiction, Sci Fi or some other aspect, while non-fiction works are given the full 40% up-grade advantage on the scale?

I believe that some how these things must be considered if we are to determine who the experts are and who is not an expert when we read information? Consider this.

    Tracking Your Articles Properly

    Tracking Your Articles Properly
    By Martin Lemieux

Writing articles related to your business is a great way to build your link popularity and also to provide more content for your site and other sites. Not too mention it's always nice when someone finds your site and uses it within their newsletter.

The only problem is, what if people dont tell you that they were using your articles??? How would you know who to reward?

I say reward because of another article I wrote, eward those who publish your articles. It briefly outlines how to boost your articles popularity by boosting the other sites it's listed on.

Let's say for now, you just want to track your articles properly.

#1 Creating appropriate forlders within your favorites. Every browser allows you to create a folder in order to hold your favorite web sites. Organizing your favorites folder is key when you plan to market your business 24/7. In this case, we'll create a new folder called Articles Listed.

Within that folder, you'll want to start creating other sub categories for EACH INDIVIDUAL ARTILCE that you market.

For instance, let's say you have about 10 articles that you always promote, you'll want to add 10 folders within your new Articles Listed folder. Make sure to give them a short but recognizable name that you would be able to distinguish which article it is for.

Ex. (I will use 3 of my title's)

  • Tracking your articles properly (Folder: Tracking Articles)

  • Writing Articles To Boost Your Traffic (Folder: Writing Articles)

  • Reward Those Who Publish Your Articles (Folder: Reward Publishers)

#2 Always keep the same headline for your article: I've visited many sites who consistently change the headline of the article simply to make it seem like a different article. Don't be shy, I'm sure we've all thought about it, infact, I am also guilty.

Starting now, let's all keep the same headline...

The reason for keeping the same headline is for 1 keeping a strong consistency with your marketing and 2 making it easyer to find your articles online.

#3 - Finding All Of Your Articles: Now let's find them for you... (Hoping that you already created your folders within your favories menu?)

I preffer using Google's Toolbar for this but it is not required. Let's all go to: www.google.com and start looking.

    Why google? Simply the best...

Take your 1st article and cut and paste the EXACT title within the google search. Now add \ at the beginning and the end of your title

Adding \ at the beginning and the end will narrow your search to exactly what's in between.

For ex. Tracking Your Articles Properly would give me better results than if I were to search: tracking your articles properly. Actually I do recommend you try both methods just in case.

Now once you have found a site that has listed your article, add the exact page your article is listed within the proper folder you created within your favorites menu.

Once you have completed this task for all of your articles, it will be very easy to keep up with your new articles. Another thing is, if you plan to reward those sites, you now have them all seperated into proper categories.

I hope this helps you out even a little like it did for me...

  • Article Income Strategies An Indirect Strategy for Making Money with Your Articles

Article Income Strategies - An Indirect Strategy for Making Money with Your Articles
    By Jeff Herring

There are several indirect and direct ways to make money with article marketing. Here is one of the most indirect methods.

Article volume leads to article income

Write lots of articles. Put them on article directories. What a volume of articles brings you are what I call the 'Three Ps' -- prospects, publicity, and profits.

Anyone can do this. It just takes time and work. Use my article writing templates. Use the seven equals eight template where you write one seven tips article and you wind up with eight articles. Use your own templates. Use your own methods to write a lot. Just write a lot of articles!

Find the time that you write the best. For me it's usually when I get up in the morning, before the day really starts, and I'll grab a draft I've written and finish it or just an idea that has been percolating for awhile. Find the time and just write a lot. And make it a goal to write. Start at an article a week. Then write an article a day.

In the my mentor program I've started giving my mentees a challenge each week. First it was write an article in seven days. Recently it was write it in six. What I'm leading up to with them is one of these nights I'm going to say at the end of the mentor call at 8:30, write an article before midnight tonight. Challenge yourself. I want you to get good at writing articles.

Online Article Submission Sites Should Authors Have the Ability to Choose Who Uses their Articles?

Online Article Submission Sites; Should Authors Have the Ability to Choose Who Uses their Articles?
    By Lance Winslow

Online article submission web sites have become very popular in the last few years and many believe that this was only a fad, but it appears to be a long-term trend. This is why solemn online article submission sites are now offered more options. One of the main online article submission sites is considering allowing the authors to have the ability to choose if they want their articles syndicated or not. Should online writers of articles have the ability to choose who uses their articles? Some believe they should.

Well this is a great subject indeed. Originally, as an online article wannabe author or writer; I was quite concerned when I saw some of my articles in places and websites I would prefer my name and articles not be associated with. Yet over all I am happy either way now that I have come to understand it all and going into my 15 month of writing articles.

It would be kind of cool to be contacted or choose which sites I allowed my articles. Ezines, which use the articles are much higher caliber than websites, which mainly pick up the articles in order to derive revenue from click ads.

Ezines have to be very careful with content, as they have to worry about their readers dropping them. Some websites seem to pick up articles, which do not really fit their theme or venue and display them poorly, but they only care about ranking well in the search engines in order to create traffic for themselves. There are becoming so questionable Blog Sites picking up articles that are also somewhat questionable you see? Consider all this in 2006.

5 Critical Promotion Mistakes People Make With Articles

Did you realize that writing and publishing articles onlinerepresents one of the best-kept website traffic secrets?

It's true! In fact, if you learn some basic principles, youcan drive thousands of visitors to your website withoutspending any money on advertising. Publishing articles notonly establishes you as an expert in your chosen field, butalso allows you to fly under the natural adar defensesyour prospects have against advertising.

But, beware! My experience as a syndicated newspapercolumnist has shown me that people who would otherwisesucceed massively promoting with articles actually failbecause they consistently make one or more of these fivecritical mistakes!

Mistake #1 - NOT Defining Your Target Audience

Many article authors make the serious mistake of notclearly defining a niche audience before writing theirarticle. Successful article authors always know the exactiche audience they want to reach before they write thefirst word.

When targeting your audience, remember this rule: Narrowand Deep! Always pick an audience with a specific, pressing, or major interest in a narrow topic!

Mistake #2 - Spamming Ezine Editors

In their desire to cover as much ground as possible, manyarticle authors resort to spam techniques for submittingtheir articles. Instead of tightly targeting appropriateezines that cater specifically to their audience, theseauthors try to hit everyone.

By trying to save time, they actually waste every minutespent writing their article because most ezine editors willjust delete their submissions as spam!

    Mistake #3 - Milktoast Topics

You can write the best article in the world, but if yourheadline doesn't grab a reader's eyeballs and pull theminto your article - you lose!

Article authors should spend at least half as much timewriting the headline as they spend writing their actualarticle.

In fact, an average article can get superior resultssimply from having a great headline at the beginning.

Mistake #4 - What's In It For Me

If they manage to make it past the first 3 pitfalls, manyarticle authors trip on their shoelaces at this stage ofthe process! Don't write about what you want to writeabout, only write on topics of high interest to your targetaudience.

In other words, give them exactly what they want and theywill love you. Nobody cares how much of an expert you rateon a particular topic until they know you can deliverinformation they need in a way they can use - now!

Mistake #5 - No Shoe Polish

You could write an article worthy of the front page of theWall Street Journal, but as soon as somebody spots a typoor misspelling, they immediately put your article lowerthan a Sunday sales circular.

Seriously, if you want to undermine all the good you can dowith a great article, send it out without proper spell-checking!

No matter what product or service you sell, once youunderstand the promotion power of free articles, you'llnever look at website traffic generation the same way.

But remember, if you abuse the power, spam ezine editors,or blatantly pitch people instead of providing realinformation, you might as well skip the whole processaltogether.

Article Marketing The Key To Successfully Using Articles For Web Traffic

Article Marketing - The Key To Successfully Using Articles For Web Traffic
    By Rich Lawson

Article marketing is the process of submitting articles to article directories for website owners to use as content on their sites for free. In exchange for providing this content you can place a resource or bio box at the end of your article which you can use to gain traffic to your site.

There are a number of ways in which your article can be found but there are 2 main ways:

    1. An Ezine publisher may find your article through searching an article directory.

    2. As the more established article directories have good search engine rankings then your article can rank in organic search results.

The main key to article success then would be getting your article in front of as many people as possible!

This can only really be done by correctly formatting your title. Your title needs to be eye catching enough to appeal to a potential Ezine publisher and to rank well in the search engine results for your chosen keywords.

So how do you go about accomplishing both of these? Lets start with getting your article ranked in the search engines.

Firstly, you need to conduct proper keyword research. What I mean by this is actually using software or online services to find out what people are searching for and how much competition there is.

From this you can target a keyword phrase and include it in your title. Obviously you need to make sure that it makes sense in English (people type in some weird stuff) and is related to the content of your article. You should try and get your keyword phrase as close as possible to the beginning of your title as this helps the search engines determine the content of your article.

Next you should format the title in a way that Ezine publishers like. Popular formats include How to, How you, How I or number formats like 5 Key Steps, 7 Crucial Elements and so on.

If you browse a directory for some of the article titles you will see evidence of these types of article titles. Things like:

The Top 5 Factors To Consider When Generating Traffic From Search Engines

Now lets say this person wanted to target the phrase traffic generation search engine from their keyword research and their article was the top 5 factors to consider. They would be much better off for search engine rankings using a title like this:

Search Engine Traffic Generation - The Top 5 Factors To Consider

Their title would be even better if they could use related keywords or phrases. They could use something like:

Search Engine Traffic Generation - 5 Top Optimisation Factors To Increase Your Websites Visitors

Some people would argue against that length of title but from my own experience I have found it better to use this type of related keyword phrase.

Online Articles and Miss Spelling of the Titles

Online Articles and Miss Spelling of the Titles
    By Lance Winslow

Recently a very controversial topic has come up where online article writers have submitted many articles to an online article submission site and purposefully miss spelled the words. Why; well simple really, you see, they want to; Game the Search Engines and thus pick up those search engines users who type in the wrong word or miss a key stroke?

One online article submission site wants this abuse to stop. In order to do this they want to disallow miss spellings in the titles. But some words may not be in the spell check, especially industry words like SmartCars, NanoFiber or Tornatic Storm Cell. Instead of addressing this issue they want to make rules without thinking and I can name 100 examples of words, which are used in common English, search engine searchers and everyday speech, but are either not actually recognized words.

And you can pick up any newspaper, white paper, industry trade journal and find at least 5 words per column that would show miss spellings, but are completely within the bounds of reality and not purposely miss spelled. Meanwhile there are many words which are miss spelled so often they in fact become the norms. All of the writers who want such a miss-spelling rule enacted are wrong on this and show their complete ignorance and I am ashamed to be associated with them in any way. They are linear thinking and are not understanding reality, basically they need to; Grow up. Consider this in 2006.

Article Writing 8 Simple Steps to Creating Your OWN Articles Without Infringing on Copyright

Article Writing - 8 Simple Steps to Creating Your OWN Articles Without Infringing on Copyright
    By Gary Simpson

With respect to article writing, there seems to be some confusion about what is allowable and what borders on plagiarism and theft. So allow me to list the actual process that I personally go through.

I hope this does not bore experienced authors. My intention is to clarify the steps that one should take to write an ORIGINAL article, not copy and change somebody else's work.

When I write an article, here is what I DO, roughly:

  • I see, hear or read something that inspires me. Often an idea will just come from that incredible place called nowhere.
  • I take my clipboard, pad and pencil (yes, I write in pencil because sometimes I will lay down and write upside down and you cant do that with a pen) and I start to write.
  • I write around a page and a half from my own brain - nowhere else. I just let it all flow out. I know that this will measure around 350 to 450 words.
  • I then research any quotes that I may use to get them EXACTLY word for word and I place them between apostrophes and assign an ownership (ie authors name). I also italicise them so that they stand out during the typing task.
  • I type the entire article in Microsoft Word. I never personally use the spell check (bad advice here) because I personally do not trust it. I edit each article two to three times.
  • I then copy and paste into my own websites or wherever else I want the article to appear.
  • I check the look of the article in the preview panels to see that it looks OK (eg no missing html closing tags). This allows a visual of how others will see it. At this point I will separate into a few more paragraphs if there are too many big blocks of print as I believe strongly that big blocks are reading barriers.
  • A final proof read to make sure it all makes sense and I hit publish or send.

Here is what I do NOT do:

  • hunt around for another persons well written article.
  • copy anything to my hard-drive that is not my own intellectual property.
  • mish-mash another persons work and then call it my own (ugh - even the thought of doing that reviles me).

I read a LOT of books, magazines and newspapers. That is often where ideas will spring from. I also read and/or scan many articles online. If I believe that another persons article is SO good I will:

    (a) compliment them via email

    (b) give them a star rating if the article site that I am visiting makes such an award.

I would do this, on average, maybe 1 in 30 articles.

THAT is what you should do if you are impressed - NOT steal it, re-hash it or do ANYTHING else with it.There is absolutely no honor in thieving anything. You dont own it. Leave it alone. Let others enjoy it by allowing it to stay as it is.

    Anyway, these are my thoughts.

I hope these steps and comments help others to see the DIFFERENCE between fresh, original work and re-badging somebody elses hard work. Re-badging, re-arranging, altering, cloning, cloaking - all that stuff is morally, ethically and legally wrong.

If you follow the steps above there is no need to do any of those nefarious things. Besides, writing original articles will give you great satisfaction and a feeling of accomplishment.

  • 4 Tips To Make Your Articles Stand Out More Than Anyone Else

4 Tips To Make Your Articles Stand Out More Than Anyone Else
    By Izrul Fizal

Article marketing has been the number one advertising tool for any online business and will remain for ages. If you are serious to make money online, you should consider to start writing one right now.

It may not make you money at first, but article marketing will become a long term effort to promote your business. Your business will not die as long as your article remains live in other people website.

Maybe you already know the benefit of article marketing, but do you know how to maximize the quality of your article so that people will keep asking for more? Do you know how to make money online using your article? You are about to find out.

    1) If you are optimizing your site with keyword articles, you will want to use the keyword approximately 1.5% of the time in the body of the article. This is the level of optimization most search engines are currently looking for. If the score is higher or lower, there is a chance you will either be ignored or penalized.

For instance, if your keyword is make money online, do your best to make out this keyword several times in your article body. Don't over do it though. For example, you have 600 words in your article body, therefore the keyword make money online at least 9 times need to appear on your article body.

    2) When creating a resource box for your articles, use a mix of psychological triggers and secrecy. Do not tell the reader everything create some curiosity and then trigger action with words like shocking, secret, powerful, unbelievable, and proven. This will induce a higher click through rate, increasing the traffic you receive for your efforts thus you make money online more than anyone.

If you thought that was interesting, just wait until you hear more.

    3) Rather than jumping right into your topic, lead your article with a story. Everybody love to hear story, right? Especially if it is about making money online. You could perhaps use some historical example and then put an interesting spin on it. From there, move toward some type of 'moral' or 'lesson', which will ultimately tie back in with the purpose of your article. This will hold readers' attention and stay glued to your article until they finish reading it.

    4) Article directories are not the only places you can submit your articles. You can also submit your articles to e-zines that accept submissions. In fact, there are a number of services dedicated to submitting your articles for you. These services will send articles to lists of thousands of different ezine owners who publish on related topics. This is a powerful method to make money online since you will get more targeted visitors to read your article.

And there you have it. If you don't take advantage of this now, you don't know just how much money you just left on the table. To make money online, all you need to do is take action right away.

Writing in Quantity How to Write Alot of Articles for Web

Writing in Quantity - How to Write Alot of Articles for Web
    By Richard Pettinger

It is quite feasible to write over 100 articles per month. If you can write good quality articles with this kind of productivity it will have a tremendous benefit for your websites. Some people may feel 100 articles a month is unachievable but there are various ways to make such a goal a real practicality.

    1. Article Length. The most popular articles on the internet are those that are short and easy to read. A good article length is between 300-700 words. If you are writing much more than 600 words you are spending more time and people may be actually less likely to read them.

    2. Write in lists and bullet points. Writing in lists really helps writing. The reason is you are focused on one point at a time. It creates greater clarity and simplicity in your writing. To write about the benefits of writing may sound daunting; but if you have a title top 7 tips for writing on the internet you have a clear focus to find and write about 7 ideas. Another benefit is that readers enjoy reading top 7 tips. It makes the article easy to scan and skim read.

    3. Write sets of articles. Suppose you would like to have a section about Thomas Jefferson on your website. To write about Jefferson is quite daunting; he achieved so much that there is an endless amount of reading you could do before you even start writing. I would suggest start off with writing short articles about certain aspects of Jeffersons life. For example you could write articles like Religious beliefs of Jefferson, Jeffersons contribution to US constitution e.t.c. After you have written several short essays about Jeffersons life now is the best time to write an overall biography. You have learnt about Jefferson and already have several articles. If you start off with writing a long biography you will spend hours researching and have only 1 article to show.

    4. Don't repeat titles On writing sets of articles dont use the same title with part 1, part 2. It is better to have a unique article title for each article. E.g dont have several articles about Jefferson part 1 about Jefferson part 2

    5. Write on What you know Best. To write a good article and check for errors usually takes about 30 mins. However, if you know all about the subject already, you may find that you can write an article in 15-20 mins. It is research that takes time.

    6. Switch off Internet. The Internet is a distraction, if you start writing and then break off to find quotes e.t.c you will get drawn away from writing. Do a little reading of your subject and then write your article unaided. Articles should always be 100% your own work. When you have written the article you could always go back and find quotes later.

    7. Find time to write. It is easy to spend 30 mins each day checking email and your web statistics several times, if we spend that time writing articles, we will have something more concrete to show for our time.

How to Write 3 or More Articles from One Great Statistic

How to Write 3 or More Articles from One Great Statistic
    By Dr. Gary S. Goodman

A part of the Ezine publishing game is to get as much mileage from your writing as you can.

This could involve spinning off multiple articles from the same premise, or breaking a large topic into several sub-topics, and then exploring them separately.

With more articles you can drive additional eyeballs to your web site and obtain better search engine rankings, so it pays to be creative in your elaborations.

A solid way of adding articles is by examining a statistic from different angles.

Recently, I posted these articles: Add Nine Years to Your Life Without Diet or Exercise and New Years Resolution: Try Unplugging!

The former appears under the Ezine category, Anti-Aging, and the second under Motivation.

They ARE different articles, but at their heart they share this startling statistic:

According to the A.C. Nielsen Co., the average American watches more than 4 hours of TV each day (or 28 hours/week, or 2 months of nonstop TV-watching per year). In a 65-year life, that person will have spent 9 years glued to the tube.

You must admit, nine years is a lot of time, and choosing to watch TV when we could be doing so many other things, is a provocative value decision. It struck me that people go to fairly extraordinary lengths to add a few years to their lives through dieting and exercise, but they could accomplish the same longevity benefit by simply not siphoning off their time to the tube.

Effectively, theyd put more life into their time, which is as cool as putting more time in their lives.

It takes an act of will to unplug, and thats where the New Years resolution idea came from.

And the article youre reading now constitutes the third that taps into the usefulness of this statistic.

Consider striking statistics from multiple viewpoints, and Im sure youll find it both mind expanding and a practical investment of your extra nine years!

Writing Online Articles is a Feather in Your Cap in Becoming a Professional Writer

Writing Online Articles is a Feather in Your Cap in Becoming a Professional Writer
    By Lance Winslow

Some professional writers and authors will tell online article writers that these articles are substandard and will not help them break into the print world or help them develop a solid resume as a writer. As an online article author of some 11,000 articles I take exception with this theory and believe it to be incorrect.

In fact if I may be so bold as to state my point in a just-less-than-tirade fashion, we know that many online article authors have had their articles re-printed in many places in print. Indeed, I myself have, there are many other top online article others on the top online article submission websites that have as well. Some online article authors have come forward with their articles being re-printed.

Publishers and Literary Agents are Not Turned Off by Online Articles

Actually, when I was in NY, I mentioned that I had over 10,000 online articles and they looked it up on the Internet while I was there. In Boston, although a specialty publisher of Futurist type stuff, they too, said hmmm when I mentioned it. I never got any you're not professional comments or dirty looks for online article authoring. I did get a so what look when I told them. To say that publishers look down on you for having online article submission, well, that simply is not so.

Further if someone is so downtrodden with rejection letters from Professional Literary Publishers, maybe they need to change their tactics in selling themselves, and stop running redline with the rest of the pack and try new things. Online article authoring could be that new thing and another feather in your cap and listing on your resume as well.

Nobody Said Life Would Be Easy for Writers

I realize that selling your work to a publisher or attracting literary agents is tough work and might get depressing. Hell sometimes you are lucky if you even hear back at all or even get one of those stupid form letters. You know what, Smile, say thank you and make a paper airplane with it and sail it across the room and say to the next, and then next after that. Ask them what they are looking for first, know your customer and sell yourself and your pitch and stop pitching crap no one wants to read?

    Every Author Wants to Win

Everyone wants to be an author these days, half of middle aged America is underemployed and wants to be an author, but only the competitive diehards who never give up are going to be published and most of them are going to paid next to nothing for it. Remember; Sun Tzu, fight the battles you can fight, move on and keep moving. Strong survive, weakness walks and professional authors should stop acting like poor sports and attacking online article marketing. If their stuff is so good, why do they care what online article authors do? Ill tell you why, their stuff isnt and the readers are less sophisticated, there is more competition than ever before and fewer people reading. Deal with it, as that is the stuff free markets are made of. What do they want some cheese with that whine?

Online Article Writing Rocks No Matter What Anyone Else Says

Personally, I could care less if anyone says that online article authoring does not count for your credentials as an author, it counts to me, I am proud of it and I plan on putting it on my list of achievements and resume. Because it does show you are serious. Anyone who thinks it shows un-professionalism to write online articles does not understand the future of books in the digital age. Sometimes I think that print publishers do not either, they do I think, they must see it coming too; how can anyone not?

    Future of Digital Literature Commeth

You know, look at the Sony Reader, soon there will be lists of books, not in the stores for people to download onto. So you better get those eBooks written and have them edited and ready to rip when they start moving forward with it all? What about the new Google Bar search feature for Digital Books too? Digital is the new, and anything in a digital format is just as relevant as not. To the readers of the future it is very much as important as print. In the future it will only be a matter of quality and not the medium. This is not Print VS Digital; it is innovation and the forward progression of books, reading and reality.

Professional Print Writers and Sour Grapes?

Indeed a good portion of these folks who call themselves Professional Authors are kidding themselves in that not all of their stuff is not that good; well it is not good enough for them to get on their high horses and attack the World of online article authors. It reminds me of nearly every industry I have ever competed in. The so-called industry professionals are so worried about losing their strong hold and anyone offering services for less and anyone who might take away from their fiefdom, that they rail against what they know so little about.

Press On Online Line Article Authors!

There is more than one reason to use online article submission sites, I can think of 10 and establishing yourself and boosting your confidence, resume and your status as an author is one of them. Digital Articles, Digital eBooks and digital everything is where it is at and Multi-media will replace the fine literature of past periods the game is evolving and I suggest everyone who is serious; Play this game to WIN! Sorry, I do not buy T.G.s logic and from personal observation, believe it sends the wrong message too.

I certainly hope this article is of interest and that is has propelled thought. The goal is simple; to help you in your quest to be the best in 2007. I thank you for reading my many articles on diverse subjects, which interest you.

Writing Short Articles A Few Important Rules!

Writing Short Articles - A Few Important Rules!
    By Peter Morgan

Writing short articles should be your rule of thumb when putting together any piece for Web publication. Unlike print publications such as newspapers and magazines, short article writing is a sought after craft, to the point where writing long articles is frowned on.

How short should your articles be?

On the Web 400 to 500 word articles are probably the norm. If you're putting together a newsletter or e-zine the rule of thumb for the short articles you're writing is 500-800 words, and no more than 15 short paragraphs.

The short articles you're writing for the e-zines or newsletters must have short paragraphs, divided by an extra line of white space. Online readers have short attention spans and scan rather than read the articles. They want to see at a glance whether they need to peruse further down the short article you are writing.

Here are some tips to make sure the article you are writing is short.

First, use that Web headline to get the users attention. That is where your benefit should first be written. What's in it for me should be clarified or at least alluded to in the first three sentences. This is the introduction to the short article you are writing.

Two things you must do and know before you start writing your short article are the audience you are writing for, the purpose of writing the short article and the outline for the piece. Knowing your audience will allow you to focus on and narrow the slant of the article, and keep your writing detailed, concise and short.

The outline you prepare should note the four of five key points of the article you are writing - before you write it. Once you have your outline then each paragraph will be about one point listed in your outline.

You may very well have several underlying points for each key point. These underlying points would then make up the short sentences in the article you are writing. No paragraph should include more than five sentences, nor should there be any convolution in those sentences.

Once you're finished writing your short article then go back and make a game out of shortening it even further. In this day of Internet growth, writing short articles can be your freelance bread and butter.

Home based web based business opportunities are becoming more and more popular for article writers and there are some excellent websites that allow you to earn recurring commissions from your efforts.

Local Search occurs by adding a geographic term is added to a search engine query. Instead of results comprising millions of pages, only businesses within your specific area are included. For example, entering Florists + Boston only returns Boston florists - a small pool of available choices.

Geographic terms can be town, state, region, zip code, etc. Results appear on both a list and map, so the most convenient stand out. Today, nearly 40% of search engine queries ask for Local Search information - with that number increasing rapidly. 70% of buyers go online to conduct research before they buy, even from local merchants. So the impact is considerable.

    Articles Deliver Credibility and Links

When you write articles and post them widely to Internet directories and ezines, your knowledge is spread to thousands of readers. Sites displaying your articles link back to your website. That encourages readers to seek you out. Links also increase search engine rankings, which push you higher on the results lists. Capture all the benefits http://www.promotewitharticles.com/benefits.html that come with writing articles.

Youre Not Competing Against the Whole World

The widespread assumption dictates shooting to be on first page results if you can (most searchers dont look past the first page). That all depends. If youre competing against every other business and website out there, thats true. And your odds are slim. But you dont need to - only the ones competing for the same customers you are.

Besides, sophisticated search-engine optimization strategies or tracking methods are beyond the needs or skills of most small businesses. Theres a danger that SEO demands can easily pull an owner away from their brick-and-mortar priorities.

Theres a well-known joke about two men being lost in the wilderness, who come to the attention of a bear. One man stops long enough to put on his running shoes. His friend scoffs, You really think you can outrun a bear? He replied, I only have to outrun you.

When it comes to Local Search, you dont have to outrun all the other enterprises that do what you do. You only have to outrun the ones in your local market. Those likely to show up in the same Local Search results you do.

Consider all the plumbers who could show up in a Local Search for:Plumber + your town. Visualize three groups:

    1. Those who wont appear in the search because theyre not listed in the search engine data bases. See if your business is included in those databases at http://www.localsearchresources.com/listed.html

    2. Those who appear in the results, but who have done nothing further. They wont show up in all the search results they could have.

    3. Those adding specific information for search engines, website visitors, and their local customers: a) enhance their website, b) provide search-engine-relevant information on their pages, c) provide easy-to-find information that Internet users are looking for.

#3 lets you outrun the other guy. Your articles help you to do that, too. Of those who show up in your search results list, how many are likely to have such additional information (and keywords) for the search engines to draw upon? Your information seems more complete and relevantleap-frogging you to the front.

Adapt Your Articles for Your Neck of the Woods

The usual method for getting better search engine rankings is to post articles widely to article directory sites and ezines interested in your topic. Thats how the games played for e-commerce topics, or products and services with a national reach.

But thats not primarily what youre after as a small business operator. Certainly, youll benefit from links from other posting sites and links to your website. But youre interested in reaching the people who live in your area. Theyre the ones you want to read your articles and be moved to come to your place of business. Your priority is to build relationships on the local level.

So also post your articles to websites or portals in your community. They may not have high page rank, but they have access to your local customers. And links among local enterprises help to support each other and the local economy. Aso, print off a stack of your articles for handouts in your storefront.

Write your articles differently. Mention your town in your title or keywords. Make sure your signature file (sig) says your town and state. Use examples that are specific to your town or region. Choosing roses that can thrive above the tree line. Refer to landmarks or make geographic references that the locals will recognize. The search engines will pick up some of those references, and theyll boost your Local Search prominence.

Learn to Make the Most of Local Search Exposure

The easier you can be found online, the more ways you appear in Local Search results. Its here for the long term, bringing customers to your door who dont respond to your other marketing methods. Articles and Local Search awareness will build on each other, and youll gain a tangible edge in your local market.

Article Writing and Marketing: So How Do I Tell Where My Articles are Going?

Article Writing and Marketing: So How Do I Tell Where My Articles are Going?
    By Jeff Herring

Do you know how to tell who is picking up and using your articles?

So you have some articles posted at EzineArticles.com and other big article directories. Good for you, keep them coming.

So now how do you know who is using your articles? Here are three tips for how to find out who is using your articles and how to build that relationship.

    1. Copy and paste the title of your article into Google, Yahoo or other search engines. Be certain to put your title in quotation marks. For example

    This is My Great Title.

will not work for our purposes here.

    What will work is

    This is My Great Title.

So put your title, in quotation marks, into Google or Yahoo and hit search.

You will now see the list of places that are using your article.

    2. If they are using your article correctly, which means there are active links in the resource box back to your site, send this email:

I noticed that you are using my article This is My Great Title in your newsletter/website. I just wanted to drop you a note to say thank you and that there are lots more where that one came from. Please let me know how I can send you more articles.

    3. If they are not using your article correctly with active links back to you, then send this email:

I noticed that you are using my article This is My Great Title in your newsletter/website. Thank you for doing that. I also noticed that the links back to my site were not active or were missing. Please correct that for me so that there are active links back to my site. Thank you in advance for taking care of that for me. There are lots more articles where that one came from, so just let me know how I can get you some more in the future.

4 HassleFree Ways to Write HowTo Articles

    4 Hassle-Free Ways to Write How-To Articles
    By Lisa Sparks

You want to get your e-mail newsletter started, but you don't want to be burdened with writing articles every time you turn around. Fact is, writing how-to articles isn't that much of a hassle once you have a system for it.

Creating short, how-to articles allow you to:

    - connect with your audience
    - position yourself as an expert, and
    - increase sales

Bottom line: Give clients information they need and you'll be the first person they'll think of when they run into challenges.

Consider creating a template for your e-mail newsletter articles that will fit the needs of your audience. Ask yourself if they want detailed information, or if they're happy receiving broad ideas that will allow them to tailor the information to meet their specific needs

If they want specific info, you could always include a teaser paragraph in your newsletter and then provide a link at the bottom of that paragraph. The link can lead to more detailed information about the subject your audience is interested in.

Once you understand the needs of your audience place your information in article format. Here's a system I've often used to bang out quick, informative articles.

    1. Begin with an identifier paragraph.

This is an introduction to the subject. Just let people know exactly what you're getting at.

    2. Tell them why they should be interested.

This is where you just get into the reader's world. You will what you're talking about help them do their jobs better? In essence, that's all people really want to know.

    3. Give short, realistic pieces of advice.

You have so much to say it's hard to fit it into short bits of info, but do it you must. Otherwise you'll lose your audience's attention. Try to stick to the points that have the most impact or the ones that are completely opposite to what people in your industry are currently doing.

    4. Wrap it up.

One of my mentors used to always say to me, Tell 'em what you're going to tell 'em. Then tell 'em. Then tell 'em what you told 'em. No he wasn't senile. His advice actually worked. At the end of every article I just wrap up what I've said by reviewing the key points of the article. It's called akeaway. What's the one thing you want the audience to take away from your article and implement in their daily work lives? Once you've answered that question, you have your final paragraph.

Whatever you do, keep it short and simple. Sure we may want to have sophisticated language if your audience craves that. But you'd be surprised. When reading e-mail especially, readers won't mind short, concise words and phrases. And that's especially true if those words and phrases add more to the bottom line and/or help them become more efficient.

4 Easy Steps to Leveraging Your Articles

4 Easy Steps to Leveraging Your Articles
    By Alicia Forest

Writing valuable content-rich articles for your target market and submitting them to article directories and other publishers is one of the best ways to market your business, become known as an expert in your field, and add subscribers to your list.

For example, if you regularly write an article for your ezine, you can get a lot more mileage out of it if you submit it to article directories and other online publishing services. And making every piece you write work more than once for you is one way to work smarter and not harder. That's called leverage.

There are several reasons why you want to do this. One is to get your name and your business out there so people will learn who you are and what you do, and it helps to position you as an expert. No more keeping yourself a secret and hiding behind your computer! :) Another reason is that your articles give people a taste of your style, what it is that you offer, and it gives them an opportunity to get to know you a bit without risking anything.

At the end of each article include a resource box so if people want to find out more about you and your business, they have that information at their fingertips. Once someone reads your article, if they like your stuff, they will likely visit your website and sign up for your Pink Spoon (your free offering that gets people on your list). And writing articles is one of the fastest (and FREE) ways to get lots of exposure, especially if a publisher with a large list picks it up!

Want to get started? Here are the 4 easy steps:

    1. Write the article or recycle one you've already written, giving it a fresh edit (it never hurts).

Write or revise an article targeted at your niche that is full of valuable content. A couple of tips: Articles can be anywhere from 300-700 words in length for the best chance of being picked up (if you have a longer article, consider chopping it in half and making it two shorter articles). Also, articles with lists, steps, or mini-chunks of information seem to be the most read.

    2. Add your copyright.

Don't forget to protect your work by adding a copyright. At the end of each article, put a copyright notice with the date of when you first published the article. For example, copyright (or ) 2005 Alicia M Forest.

    3. Write the copy for your author's box.

After your copyright notice comes what's usually referred to as the esource box or author's box. In order for others to publish your work, ask that they include this information at the end of your article, keeping what you provide in it whole and intact. As this is standard practice, you'll find most publishers will honor this request.

Write 3-5 lines that entice people to find out more about you by providing the web address to the sign-up page for your Pink Spoon. You don't need to use this valuable real estate to promote your business, but do use it to encourage people to join your list by signing up for your ezine or other free offering.

A tip: Again, don't send your article readers to your home page. Send them to a page set up specifically to add them to your list. For example, sayfor more articles like this, please visit www.yourezinepage.com to sign up!

    4. Submit your article.

Although this is one of the most time-consuming marketing tasks, it can be made much simplier by either hiring a VA to do it for you, or using an article submission service. A couple of services that I use are:

    SubmitYOURArticlewww.articlemarketer.com

There are literally hundreds of websites that offer free content for publishers who are in need of quality articles for their own publications or websites. Here are some of the best ones:

    www.ezinearticles.com
    www.ideamarketers.com
    www.goarticles.com
    www.article-host.com
    www.articlecity.com

    Bonus step:

If you want to see stronger results from submitting your articles, contact directly those publishers of ezines and websites in your niche. Google publishers of ezines in your target market and then send a query to the editor/owner about submitting an article. Present yourself as a professional and offer your article for their use, provided the resource box remains in tact. Paste your article under your message (attachments can get blocked, and if the receiver doesn't know you it's unlikely they will open and read it anyway).

Writing and submitting articles is one of the tried-and-true, if slow-and-steady, ways to build your list, become known as an expert, and offer value to your target market.

    Writing TimeOriented Articles

    Writing Time-Oriented Articles
    By Halstatt Pires

The first step in writing an article for distribution is to come up with a subject. To really make hay, you should always look to see if there is a time element you can incorporate as well.

Time-oriented articles are simply those that deal with an event that has a specific deadline. If you really want to see one of your articles republished thousands upon thousands of times, find a deadline that is universal to all or most readers. Lets look at an example

The easiest universal deadline that comes to mind involves taxes. Every year, we are all supposed to file our taxes on April 15. If you are writing articles for a tax site, you easily could start publishing articles about preparing taxes and submitting them in February or March. A simple subject would be tax changes for 2006 or whatever year it happens to be. Publishers will snap up these articles because they are timely and apply to just about everyone.

Another example would be time-oriented articles related to holidays. Obviously, Christmas is the big one, but there are plenty of holidays you can hit through the year. You can approach these articles in a variety of ways, but you might focus on things such as the top 10 gifts for men, girlfriends, husbands, wives, etc. You could write about product reviews as well. As long as the article is submitted to the directories a month or so before the holiday, you should see a lot of interest from the publishers.

Focusing on time-oriented articles has a second benefit that is nearly as valuable as those mentioned above. Simply put, you can re-write articles each subsequent year as new developments occur. Consider our tax changes article mentioned above. Tax laws change every year, so you can write a new article every year incorporating the latest information. If you take this approach, you will find that you have a bevy of subjects ready to go each year that publishers will snap up.

It is often represented that publishers are looking for well-written articles. If you throw a time element into your writing, it will soon become apparent that they are really looking for timely, well-written articles.

Write Articles to Position Yourself as an Expert (And Gain Traffic at the Same Time)

Write Articles to Position Yourself as an Expert (And Gain Traffic at the Same Time)
    By Sean Mize

Write Articles to Position Yourself as an Expert (And Gain Traffic at the Same Time)

Writing articles is an incredibly effective method of creating the expert attitude. You see, when you write about what you know, you begin to develop an attitude that simply indicates you know what you are talking about.

No matter how well you know something, if you write about it, you become smoother. If you have written articles for awhile, you will be able to crank out return letters and posts to forums much faster, because you are writing something you feel comfortable writing about. And the only way you can do that is to write a lot.

Start with areas you fully understand. Possibly your first 25 articles will be on the basics of your topic. Just write what you know. After the first 25 or so articles, then begin to go in more depth. Once you have covered all the basics, you can go deep.

Do not feel as though you need to cover every detail in your article. You see, when someone is reading your articles, they may not have the time to read a small book--so keep it short and to the point. If the reader wants to learn more, they can contact you.

This allows you to simultaneously develop contacts as your are establishing yourself as an expert. After you have written 100+ articles, you will not only be perceived as an expert, but you will also have created some good contacts.

You Can't Write Enough Defective Articles

You Can't Write Enough Defective Articles
    By Dr. Gary S. Goodman

Yesterday, I was talking to an aspiring writer who was lamenting the fact that the distance-learning classes she was taking to improve her writing were a major disappointment.

She was especially pissed-off that her instructor found one of her pieces suspiciously similar, in plot, to a movie that came out in 2005.

My friend rebutted that she wrote her piece in 2002, so she was the actual source of the plot.

    I was unsympathetic.

I told her she should learn to write better by writing more!

Why was she submitting stuff she did in 02? Isnt that ancient history?

Nothing, in my opinion, comes close to helping us to improve than crafting as much literature as possible, I said.

Clearly, she didnt want to hear this from me.

She wants to learn THE SECRET to effective writing, the proverbial shortcut, if you will.

There arent any, and those who advertise ways to make a fortune or to become famous in record time, are deceitful, to say the least. Theyre conning people into believing that hard work is an unpleasant investment that writers simply dont have to make.

For arguments sake, lets say youre a novice at writing. What will happen if you compose a great amount of utter garbage?

Youll get rejections, but somewhere along the path, someone will give you valuable feedback. Moreover, youll learn literary techniques and conventions by re-reading the massive output that youve created.

By editing that, youll polish your repository of prose, and youll develop an acute sense of what works and what doesnt.

Youll grow curious about what is being published, and why, and youll note the gap between your stuff and theirs, and then youll be on your way to closing it.

Nothing succeeds like failure, providing you do enough of it!
